Rutgers Football Spring Game
Rutgers Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Tim Pernetti and head football coach Kyle Flood announced Monday Rutgers’ plans for the Scarlet-White spring football game on Saturday, April 27.
All fans in attendance at the Scarlet-White game will be given the option to make a $5 donation to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund upon entering the gates. Rutgers will wear special helmets with the R Strong logo. Kickoff for the Scarlet-White game is at 3 p.m.
The team will wear jerseys with 90 names of towns across New Jersey that were affected by Hurricane Sandy. Each jersey will then be signed by Flood and given to each town later this spring and summer.
Rutgers Athletics sold over $61,000 worth of R Strong t-shirts since the fall of 2012. In addition, Scarlet Fever in downtown New Brunswick, who partnered with Rutgers Athletics, sold almost $87,000 with all the proceeds from the combined effort going to the Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund.
Rutgers Athletics also raised $10,000 for the Jersey Shore chapter of the American Red Cross through our student-athletes who collected at the Army game last November.
The third annual “Believe Bowl” will begin prior to the Scarlet-White game as two teams of former Rutgers Football letter winners take the field for an exhibition flag football game. Hopes are the “Believe Bowl” will raise awareness and support for Eric LeGrand and Rutgers Spinal Cord Research.
Several of Rutgers current NFL players will sign autographs prior to the Scarlet-White game. Full details of the location and start time for the NFL autograph signings and the “Believe Bowl” will be announced shortly.
Fans who can’t make it to High Point Solutions Stadium can view the Scarlet-White game live on RVision via ScarletKnights.com. The Rutgers Radio Network crew of Chris Carlin, Ray Lucas, Anthony Fucilli and Eric LeGrand have the call.
