If you’ve been thinking about grabbing a BlackBerry Torch 9810 or Torch 9860 from AT&T, you may want to think a bit harder next week. AT&T is offering up both devices for just a penny as part of their holiday promotion. You’ll have to sign a new 2-year contract as an upgrade or new line to be eligible for the promo price, but you’ll save a bundle on the device itself if you do so. The Torch 9860 will be available for $0.01 on Sunday November 27th and the Torch 9810 on Monday November 28th.

Intel Unveils Their 50 Core Processing Chip
–> Courtesy of Daily Tech
GPGPU and cloud computing have been hot topics for the last several years. Intel has shown off several designs like Larrabee and the Single-chip Cloud Computer in the past. However, it is Knights Corner that will be the firm’s first commercial product to use the Many Integrated Core (MIC) architecture. It will be offered as a PCIe add-in board.
The MIC concept is simple: Use architecture specifically designed to process highly parallel workloads, but ensure compatibility with existing x86 programming models and tools.
This would give MIC CPUs the ability to run existing applications without the need to port the code to a new programming environment, theoretically allowing maximum CPU and co-processor performance simultaneously with existing x86 based applications. This would dramatically save time, cost and resources that would otherwise be needed to rewrite them to alternative proprietary languages.
AMD and NVIDIA have been trying to do with their latest architectures by enabling support for languages like C++, but Intel wants to challenge them in this potentially lucrative market.
Knights Corner will be manufactured using Intel’s latest 3-D Tri-Gate P1270 22nm transistor process and will feature more than 50 cores. Intel demonstrated first silicon of Knights Corner at the SC11 conference yesterday. The co-processor wowed the crowd by delivering more than 1 TeraFLOPS of double precision floating point performance.
The firm also touted its “commitment to delivering the most efficient and programming-friendly platform for highly parallel applications”, and showed off the benefits of the MIC architecture in weather modeling, tomography, protein folding, and advanced materials simulation at its booth.
There is no time frame on when Knights Corner will enter production or be available to customers.
BlackBerry Releases More FREE Apps
As part of Research In Motion’s Thank You Gifts, Blackberry has released a few more FREE applications for download
Applications include:
Drive Safe.ly Pro: an app that dictates your text/email messages when active. It also enables users to respond via voice commands
Shazam Encore: ever wonder what song the DJ is playing? Shazam allows you to tag & purchase the music!
Bubble Bash 2: Bash colored bubbles (great waste of time when you’re on the train)
Bejeweled: Those that are my Facebook friends/fans know that I play this game in the car, on the plane, in my office…whenever I’m not TOO crazy!
Vlingo: The ORIGINAL Virtual Assistant that does just about everything you need to do that I’ve thought about letting my P.A. go (just kidding), but it’s a great app…especially when it’s FREE and retails at $19.99

Apple Admits iPhone 4s Battery Flaw
As Reported by Catharine Smith of the Huffington Post
If you purchased an iPhone 4S or upgraded your iDevice device to Apple’s recently released iOS 5 software, you might have noticed that your battery life doesn’t last as long as it should. You’re not alone. Others have flocked to the Apple forums to complain about the issue, and numerous bloggers have taken issue with the comparatively short battery life in some iOS 5 devices.
Thankfully, Apple was listening.
The Loop’s Jim Dalrymple reported on Wednesday that an Apple rep had acknowledged the battery problem and had even hinted at a fix on the horizon.

Mobile Hotspot coming to Blackberry 7.1?!
Being a loyal Blackberry enthusiast comes with its ups and downs.
Yes, I enjoy true mobile push email. BB is even getting set to launch a new store.
Their Messenger Connect applications list is growing which hooks us on even more of a reason
to stay within the Blackberry OS web. BUT, my 2 biggest gripes about the new line of phones,
as much as I adore my Blackberry 9850 and members of my staff Blackberry 9900
4G & Mobile Hotspot capabilities are missing… at least until now.
YES Blackberry QNX, better known as BBX will be launching soon,
and DJ Yoshi Entertainment is being BLESSED by
Research In Motion with a test BBX device (reviews to come), but for those that are already on
brand new berries, check out what’s coming to OS 7.1

Yes, it’s from China…and we have yet to see an official video, but it’s still pretty damn exciting!
