Former Rutgers football coach Greg Schiano, now head coach of the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has issued a statement on the death of Rutgers alum and avid Scarlet Knights supporter James Gandolfini. The two got to know each other well through various events over the years. The statement:
“I am sad to hear of the passing of Jim Gandolfini. He was a great supporter of Rutgers Football long before it was fashionable to be so. His generosity in helping us lent relevance to our football program at a time when it was desperately needed. In addition to his acting acclaim, he will be remembered by all Rutgers people as compassionate alum and a great New Jerseyan.”

To Our Beloved Rutgers Football Fan: Rest in Peace James Gandolfini
– via Daily News –
Actor James Gandolfini is dead at 51. A source tells the Daily News he suffered a massive heart attack in Italy.
The New Jersey-bred actor who delighted audiences as mob boss Tony Soprano in “The Sopranos” has died following a massive heart attack in Italy, a source told the Daily News.
A press-shy celeb who got his start as a character actor and became famous relatively late in his career — thanks to his breakout role on “The Sopranos,” Gandolfini has largely avoided the spotlight since the last season of the beloved show aired in 2007.
The burly Westwood, N.J. native has appeared in several supporting roles since then, playing the director of the CIA in “Zero Dark Thirty” and the gruff blue-collar father of a wannabe rock star in “Not Fade Away” last year.
“The older I get, the funnier-looking I get, the more comedies I’m offered. I’m starting to look like a toad, so I’ll probably be getting even more soon.”
Gandolfini’s wife, former model Deborah Lin, gave birth to a baby girl last October. The couple married in Hawaii in 2008
Gandolfini — who spent part of his early career supporting himself as a bartender and nightclub manager — also has a son with his ex-wife, Marcy Wudarski.
His first break came in 1992 when he landed a role in a Broadway version of “A Streetcar Named Desire” that starred Alec Baldwin and Jessica Lange.
Smallish parts in major films followed — Gandolfini played a submarine crew member in “Crimson Tide” in 1995 and a gangland bodyguard in “Get Shorty” the same year.
Fame came for the Italian-American actor after 1999, as “The Sopranos” garnered critical acclaim and cult popularity on its way to becoming a TV classic.
Gandolfini won three Emmy Awards for his sparkling depiction of protagonist Tony Soprano, a mobster trying to balance the mundane stresses of family life and his unusual occupation: organized crime.
As if the night couldn’t be any more electric for hopeful Met fans. After watching the debut of Zack Wheeler, we must say:

Police activity continued around Aaron Hernandez’s house on Tuesday as police appeared to execute a search warrant on the house before taking two men, neither of whom were Hernandez, away from the scene, according to Sports Illustrated’s Greg Bedard.
The investigation is related to a possible homicide after a 27-year-old man’s body was found by a jogger on Monday, less than a mile from Hernandez’s house. Although he is not a suspect, Hernandez was reportedly an “associate” of the victim, according to a report from ABC News. Hernandez’s tie to the investigation initially came when his name was linked to a rental car that police identified in connection to the possible homicide.
According to Bedard, 10 police cars arrived at Hernandez’s house in North Attleboro, Mass., on Tuesday. Police then entered the house, likely executing a search warrant, before checking the IDs of two men who attempted to leave. Police later escorted the two men into police cruisers and away from the house. Bedard, who was on the scene during the activity, said a man who appeared to be Hernandez arrived at the house while police were there.
Michele McPhee of ABC News reported Hernandez has been uncooperative with police during the investigation. Bristol County District Attorney Sam Sutter said the investigation would be turned over to the Massachusetts State Police.
