The “Godfather of House” has died.
Legendary DJ and music producer Frankie Knuckles passed away Monday, aged 59.
The official cause of death is currently unknown, but some reports suggest it was from complications related to Type II Diabetes.

Born in the Bronx in 1955, Knuckles first played disco in New York alongside Larry Levan – before moving to Chicago in the 1970s.
It was there he started spinning at The Warehouse – the club credited with giving birth to the house music genre – before opening up his own venue The Power Plant in 1983.

A prolific producer, he formed Def Mix Productions with Morales – and worked with stars including Diana Ross, Chaka Khan and Michael Jackson.
His break as an independent artist came in 1991 when Virgin released his debut album “Beyond the Mix” – containing seminal singles “The Whistle Song,” “Rainfalls” and “Workout.”
The City of Chicago renamed a stretch of Jefferson Street, near the site of the original Warehouse club, as “Frankie Knuckles Way” in 2004.

Knuckles was also credited as being the first ever recipient for Remixer of the Year, Non-Classical at the 40th Grammy Awards in 1998.

Researchers might have found the Holy Grail in the war against cancer, a miracle drug that has killed every kind of cancer tumor it has come in contact with.

The drug works by blocking a protein called CD47 that is essentially a “do not eat” signal to the body’s immune system, according to Science Magazine.

This protein is produced in healthy blood cells but researchers at Stanford University found that cancer cells produced an inordinate amount of the protein thus tricking the immune system into not destroying the harmful cells.

With this observation in mind, the researchers built an antibody that blocked cancer’s CD47 so that the body’s immune system attacked the dangerous cells.

So far, researchers have used the antibody in mice with human breast, ovary, colon, bladder, brain, liver and prostate tumors transplanted into them. In each of the cases the antibody forced the mice’s immune system to kill the cancer cells.

“We showed that even after the tumor has taken hold, the antibody can either cure the tumor or slow its growth and prevent metastasis,” said biologist Irving Weissman of the Stanford University School of Medicine in Palo Alto, California.

One side effect of the treatment was that healthy cells were subjected to short-term attacks by the mice’s immune system, but the effect was nothing in comparison to the damage done to the cancer cells.

Weissman’s group recently received a $20 million dollar grant to move their research from mouse to human safety testing.

A new company is hoping that some New Yorkers and New Yorkers in need of a clean bathroom will pay big bucks for a comfort break. And by big, we mean $8 for a day pass, plus a $15 sign-up fee!

Post Stow and Go is hoping its offering of clean bathrooms, showers, baby-changing stations and lockers will strike a chord. Its website outlines its offerings:

– Private lockers with re-settable digital locks
– Storage rooms for large packages too inconvenient to carry around all day
– Private powder rooms with touch-less faucets and flushers as well as baby changing stations – cleaned after each use by our staff
– Luxury showers in approximately one in every five rooms, as well as wheelchair accessible showers and ADA compliant bathrooms

Posh Stow and Go is also looking to open up lounges for nursing mothers. The company says it’s opening up locations “in Midtown Manhattan near Grand Central and Penn Station with street level access and no stairs to climb! And close to Times Square, The Empire State Building, 5th Ave shopping, the Theater District, Rockefeller Center…well, everything! Expansion locations will be in lower Manhattan near the ferries with easy access to the Freedom Tower, the Statue of Liberty, Greenwich Village and more.”

The company that brought the world the addictive puzzle game Candy Crush Saga is hoping that investors will line up for a piece of its stock as well.

King Digital Entertainment, which has headquarters in Dublin but has offices across Europe and in San Francisco, filed on Tuesday for an initial public offering in the United States. But prospective investors may be wary that players may be tiring of paying to line up shiny virtual pieces of sugar.

While King’s preliminary prospectus gave a preliminary $500 million fund-raising target to determine registration fees, the company is expected to seek a multibillion-dollar valuation. It confidentially filed for an I.P.O. last year.

King is the latest in a growing number of European social gaming companies that have become global champions.

Supercell, the Finnish tech start-up behind the Clash of Clans and Hay Day franchises, raised $1.5 billion last year from the Japanese telecommunications company Softbank, in a deal that valued Supercell at around $3 billion.

Other European gaming companies include Wooga, a Berlin-based start-up that has created a series of social gaming hits like Jelly Splash that continue to top the charts on both Apple’s iTunes and Google Play’s stores.

The rise of the nearly 11-year-old King, built largely on the huge success of Candy Crush, has had many analysts and prospective investors eagerly await an I.P.O. The company said that its profit surged more than 7,000 percent last year, to $567.6 million from $7.8 million. Revenues climbed tenfold, to nearly $1.9 billion.

In its filing, the game maker disclosed that it has 128 million daily active users, some of whom spend big amounts of money to buy lives or special tools.

Candy Crush, in which players try to line up three or more matching types of candy, contributed the vast majority of that number with an average of 93 million users a day. It remains the second-highest-grossing app on Apple’s App Store as of Tuesday, behind Clash of Clans.

Other popular games include Pet Rescue Saga and Farm Heroes Saga.

Despite the rapid successes of these European companies, analysts and investors fret that the gaming start-ups remain reliant on a small number of hits.

Share prices have slumped at American rivals like Zynga, which went public in 2011, as investors raise concerns that they will not be able to create new gaming franchises that will keep consumers entertained.

Some investors may be concerned that King could suffer the same fate. The company said that its top three games comprised 95 percent of its total gross bookings.

The company’s gross bookings and revenue declined in the fourth quarter of 2013, in part because of a decline in the Candy Crush business. King emphasized that it expected its blockbuster hit to contribute less to its overall sales over time.

JPMorgan Chase, Credit Suisse and Bank of America Merrill Lynch are leading the underwriting of the I.P.O.

Two wild orcas have been captured by Russian hunters, and are on their way to be displayed in a dolphinarium at the Sochi Winter Olympics.

White Sphere, the Russian company behind this, are just looking to make a fast buck from the tourists who will be descending on to Sochi during the Games. All at the expense of these beautiful creatures who have been stolen from their ocean home.

The mammals, which can grow up to 22ft long and swim 100 miles a day, are set to be kept in a “small concrete tank” after a 4,614-mile flight from the far east of Russia. Animal experts say that transporting orcas causes them stress, that keeping them in captivity shortens their life and can even turn them “psychotic”.

As of Wednesday January 29, 2014, 227,345 people have signed a petition to stop the display of the Killer Whales.

Turn Beer & Liquor Bottles Into Drinking Glasses

Liquor Before Beer…

Step 1: Grab a beer bottle preferably with thick glass such as corona bottles. Tie a string just above the label on the empty bottle

Step 2: Keep the string tied and soak it in lighter fluid.

Step 3:Put the string back on the bottle and hold it horizontally.
Light the sting rotating the bottle so the flame spreads. You should hear the bottle crack slightly in about 10 seconds.

Step 4: After you hear the crack, pour cold water on the string and the top of the bottle will fall off.
